'Good' depends on what you're measuring. In my world, that means spec compliance, not brand loyalty. FEIT Electric is a name you find in big-box lighting aisles. That isn't a bad thing—it means their lineup has to cover a lot of use cases: standard LED bulbs, smart bulbs, chandelier bulbs, G4 bi-pin bulbs, spotlights, flood lights. For a contractor, that range is useful because you can spec one brand across several rooms.
What matters to me is how honest the package is. If you're comparing a FEIT Electric LED light against a generic bulb from a hardware shelf, it rarely disappoints on label honesty. - Match lumens to location: 200–400 lm for accent, 700+ lm for security.
- Choose color temperature: 2700–3000K for residential comfort, 5000K if security cameras need crisp detail.
- Check the rating: outdoor fixtures should say 'wet location,' not just 'damp.'

- Let the fixture cool completely.
- Remove the bulbs and any glass shades that detach. If a shade is stuck, mask it carefully.
- Clean the surface with a degreaser. Outdoor fixtures build up grime, and paint won't bond to grime.
- Lightly sand with 220-grit and wipe off the dust.
- Mask the socket openings and any exposed wiring. Keep paint away from electrical contacts.
- Use exterior spray paint rated for metal or plastic. Apply thin coats and wait between coats.
- Wait 24 hours before reinstalling bulbs.
One mistake I made early on: skipped the masking because I was in a hurry. The overspray coated the glass lens. It took longer to scrape off than masking would've taken. Not ideal. Workable, but not ideal.
Do FEIT Electric smart lights need a hub?
Depends on the product. FEIT Electric sells both WiFi bulbs and Zigbee bulbs. WiFi bulbs connect directly to a router. Zigbee bulbs need a compatible hub or a smart speaker with a built-in Zigbee coordinator. The box will say. Read it before you buy.
Contractors: don't assume one app controls every FEIT smart product. Some devices use the FEIT Electric app; others use a different onboarding path. The safer habit is to test one unit before buying a case. Also, smart bulbs need constant power. If a wall switch will cut power to the fixture, a smart switch may make more sense.
